Patch 1.23.0 with StarCraft: Cartooned has arrived!

Features and Improvements

New Content

  • StarCraft: Cartooned: This is a complete reskin for the campaign and multiplayer utilizing the lighthearted charm of Carbot Animations.
  • “Hey Jini” announcer: Celebrity “Hey Jini” is beloved by kids of all ages in Korea and is the perfect pairing for StarCraft: Cartooned.

(both items are available in the Collections menu)

Additional notes:

  • SCR is now 64-bit compatible. An opt-in option is now available in the application. We’d very much appreciate you guys giving this a go as it will become the only option available on MAC later this year.
  • Input update from PTR - Keyboard commands will now work when the mouse is held down.
  • Voices of Legend announcers have been updated with better stereo sound.
  • StarEdit is no longer included with StarCraft: Remastered. We recommend using SCMDraft 2.


  • SCMDraft 2 offers extended tileset doodads that we do not support in Cartooned. Because of this, some player made maps will not be fully skinned.

Patch 1.22.4 has arrived.

Features and Improvements

  • Four new purchasable announcers have been added, featuring some of the most legendary commentators in StarCraft’s history.

    • Announcer: Um-Jeon-Kim
      • Purchase all three individual announcers or the Voices of Legend Bundle to unlock the Um-Jeon-Kim announcer trio!

  • Collections are now accessible via the main menu for items that are not character specific. 

  • Ranked MMR is now visible for both players before entering a ranked game.

  • In case you’ve missed what race your opponent was after queuing up for ranked and getting into game, you can now open the diplomacy UI and find out their race. Note ** Random players will show up as “?”

  • Added a “Watch Replay” button option to the post ranked game UI.

  • Players you’ve recently played with will now appear on your “Add Friend” menu popup via chat.


  • Refactor of our Cloud saving code, as previously released on PTR.

  • Resizing or altering the window state will no longer cause performance issues in game.

  • “Key Scroll Speed” and “Mouse Scroll Speed” now have a universal value for both single and multiplayer.

  • Overhauled replay information screen and replay file name format.
  • Friends presence notifications can now be toggled on and off with the chat commands /f on and /f off
  • /dnd will also ignore presence notifications from friends. Additionally, when /dnd is now toggled feedback will be provided as to whether it’s on or off.
  • Added /f o as an alias for /f lo

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug introduced in last patch which caused replays to go out of sync when any player left the game. Note * existing replays created under that patch will not be repaired – they will remain broken.
  • Re-enabled disconnect stats

Patch 1.22.2 has arrived!

  • Added code to prevent and penalize ladder game dodging.
  • Players will now receive a sound alert when someone joins a game lobby.
  • EUD: Added support for euddraft’s Unlimiter plugin

Bug Fixes

  • Fix for IGR leaderboard dropdown in an IGR environment.
  • Fix for HD Jungle ramps
  • Fixed instances where game settings were not being saved properly to the cloud.

Patch 1.22.0 has arrived! This patch features a new Ladder, updated profile UI, and ramp art for mapmakers.

  • Season 1 is now live!
    • Players will begin the new Season unranked. After 5 placement matches, they’ll be placed into a league.
    • Frontier League data will help determine pre-placement MMR.
  • We’ve implemented a new rank-based League System familiar to long time veterans of Brood War.

Patch 1.21.5 has arrived!

Features and Improvements

  • Updated the Frontier League Map pool to replace Jade and Match Point with ASL Season 5 maps Transistor and Gladiator.
  • Red vs Blue is now the default player colors for Top vs Bottom multiplayer 1v1 games.
  • Optimized player profile performance.
  • Streamlined basic chat command help by listing all available commands when the user types /help.
  • Multiplayer setting including the game name, map file, game type, teams, speed, and turn rate are now preserved even after a player re-logs.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash that was intermittently happening upon launch.
  • Fix for player receiving “Error# 112 Storm Error” after attempting to load saved custom games.
  • Character data such as time played, and overall stats were carrying over if players created profiles using the same name in different regions.

Patch 1.21.4 has arrived!

Features and Improvements

  • As part of StarCraft’s 20th-anniversary celebration, we’ve added a brand new HD console to SCR. The skin can be enabled via the game options menu. We really hope you enjoy it, and we thank you for your continual support over the last 20 years.
  • Added Turn-Rate 20 and 24 support
  • Optimized UI performance for the Gateway, Registry, Ranked Info and Leaderboard Screens.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing ranked matches to frequently fail and re-queue.
  • Crashes occurring during the join game process.
  • Mac oversized cursor on Retina displays.
  • Turn rate not displaying
  • Fixed an issue where typing in Japanese and Traditional Chinese would cause a disconnect.
  • Removed the Linked Profile option from the UI.

Patch 1.21.3 has arrived!

Features & Improvements

  • Revised custom game map distribution with cloud support. peer-to-peer downloads will only occur if the player is unable to obtain the map via the cloud.

  • Optimized custom game packet re-sending if we detect poor connectivity between players.

  • Added dynamic turn rate support for custom games.  DTR is now the first option on the turn rate slider.

  • Optimized the performance of the matchmaking game results screen.

  • Doubled the CCMU bullet limits to 400.

  • Additional EUD map support

  • Added the following characters to the allowed rebindable hotkeys: ' ; . , \ [ ]

Bug Fixes

  • The /f la command now displays the current User that is logged in rather than combing both the previous and the current Users' friends.

Patch 1.21.2 has arrived!

Features & Improvements

  • In our continual effort towards improving network latency we have implemented STUN NAT 2 support. This should drastically decrease the amount of people being proxied, so most players will no longer need to tinker with their router settings to forward port 6112.
  • Once again we’ve updated our turn rate algorithm. It now determines the most optimal starting turn rate rather than starting at 16.
  • Turn rate will now be displayed in the top right corner of the screen. Ctrl+Alt+T can toggle the feature on and off.
  • FPS can now be toggled with Ctrl+Alt+F.
  • Various improvements and bug fixes in the EUD emulator including support for additional maps.

  • Improved latency for matchmaking games by preferring hosts that are not proxied

Bug Fixes


  • EUD map Random Tower Defense will allow max players

  • The Chat Menu will only display one BattleTagID after sending multiple whispers to the same Player

  • Fixed /ignore


  • Fixed an issue with Mac retina displays where the game would open in a very small window
  • Fixed an issue where integrated Intel Graphics cards were not displaying certain sprites correctly.

Patch 1.21 has arrived. This patch was focused on enabling EUD, updating the CCMU variables, improving our turn rate system, and introducing a brand-new map pool for the current Frontier League.

Features & Improvements


  • Added an EUD “Extended Unit Death” emulator that supports hundreds of EUD offsets for custom maps. This is something that we have been very excited to deliver for StarCraft Remastered and hope you all really enjoy it. For more information on EUD please visit our blog: (Link)

CCMU “Cannot Create More Units”

  • Brood War enthusiasts can rejoice in the glory that is updated CCMU variables. We have raised the limits of sprites & bullets that can be spawned in game! Additionally, we have added an option while creating a game that allows players to adjust the CCMU limits back to their original limitations.

Map Pool

  • Updated the current ladder map pool in the Frontier League to:
    • CircuitBreakers1.0
    • Fighting Spirt 
    • Match Point
    • Longinus II
    • Neo Jade
    • Tau Cross
    • Destination


  • We have updated our turn rate algorithm to be smarter and better than ever. The new system is more meticulous at determining if the turn rate needs to be lowered and will even increase it.  


  • Players can now view their own replays from the profile screen.

Bug Fixes


  • Changes made for Game Speed, Key Scroll Speed or Mouse Scroll Speed should now persist after patches.
  • Pressing U now only toggles replay speed after Alt+Tabbing in and out of the Replay session.
  • The + and = symbols are now working correctly within chat.

  • /where and /whois commands are now working correctly for those that are Blizzard friends and non Blizzard friends.
  • Fixed an issue where some player and race settings couldn’t be changed in the Single Player lobby.
  • Players that navigate rapidly through the client menus will no longer hit a black screen state.


  • Fixed a crash on Mac occurring when joining a Multiplayer custom game.

Known Issues

  • Save game is disabled for EUD maps
  • Replays will not be saved for EUD maps
  • A big majority of EUD maps are supported except for maps that change the SCR graphics

1.20.11 has arrived. The patch focuses on social improvement. One love. 

Features & Improvements

  • /f m and /f ma now include Friends
  • Players will be notified when Friends enter or exit and games
  • Players will now be notified when using /f r on an invalid player name

Bug Fixes

  • Changes to Turn rate for custom games will persist when creating new custom or unranked lobbies
  • Fixed lobbies appearing multiple times when refreshing the game list
  • Fixed a crash related to accessing cloud maps in the create game screen

1.20.10 has arrived. This patch focuses on refinements to chat and the competitive experience, and updates a console or two.

Features & Improvements 

  • Players will now be notified when their turn rate changes in game
  • Updated Protoss console art
  • BlizzCon attendees and Virtual Ticket holders now have a special console that can be enabled!
  • Chat history “+” functionality has been reworked to include a UI dialog, and exclude normal lobby chat
  • Fixed issues related to chat messages between players

Bug Fixes


  • Text appears correctly on UMS maps with custom unit names as UTF8 after saving and loading
  • The shield damage effect appears on top of the Nexus with the preorder skin enabled
  • Korean characters now display as normal when SD graphics are enabled

  • The correct Map Preview image appears when Joining/Quick Joining a lobby after previously selecting a different Map
  • Using command /f lo now displays friends that are online with their Profile name
  • Cloud settings now preserve defaults if the player doesn't modify them
  • Right click player reporting is now fully localized

1.20.9 has arrived. The patch focuses on improvements and stability from the last few patches. 

Features & Improvements

  • Increased file size allowed when downloading maps
  • Ladder maps added within folder structure: maps/ladder/FrontierLeague2017S1
  • Players with HD licenses now able to play offline for 30 days
  • Enter “/help friends” in Chat for additional information on Friends’ commands
  • Right click reporting a player within a Channel list will open a modal with a list of report types

Bug Fixes

  • The Spidermine’s Attack icon is now in HD
  • Players with US accounts running in a Korean version of Windows are now able to zoom in Single Player
  • Cloud upload message will no longer flash on exit 

  • Fixed a graphical anomaly when entering Leaderboards and Profile
  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to access other players’ profiles from Chat Channels
  • Changing portraits now working as intended
  • “Designate as Moderator” is no longer an option for users that are already Moderators
  • Receiving a whisper from a player that you have not responded to will now display in the Chat List
  • Fixed an issue where selected Profile name was not appearing between whispering players


  • Fixed a crash caused by selecting an unsupported map size
  • Fixed a crash caused by /quit or /logout commands
  • Fixed crashes caused by receiving whispers from Friends

1.20.8 has arrived. This patch was focused on dynamic turn rate and updated friend commands. 

Specific Changes & Improvements

  • Matchmaking games now have dynamic turn rate reduction if the client determines high latency. The turn rate will start with 16 and scale down appropriately. We expect this to make a positive impact on latency for matchmaking, and we are very excited to be rolling it out
  • /friends commands have been updated:
    • /f l (or list) Shows all Brood War friends plus all Blizzard friends who are currently in SCR
    • /f la (or list all) Shows all friends (BW + Blizzard, regardless of whether they are in SCR or not) 
    • /f lb (or listBlizzard) Shows all Blizzard friends (no Brood War friends) regardless of whether they are in SCR or not
    • /f lo (or listOnline) Shows all friends (BW + Blizzard who are in SCR) who are currently online
  • Updated the SD option for bilinear to be a slider. Sliding to the left increases sharpness, sliding to the right increases the intensity of the filter
  • Slightly reduced the size of the Replay UI center console

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where users would sometimes see a blank page on the post matchmaking toast screen
  • Portraits in chat now update immediately when changed for friends and non-friend users

1.20.7 has arrived. This patch is focused on dynamic lighting, and the Protoss console. 

Specific Changes & Improvements

  • Revamped the Replay UI to have all the observer mode features as well as a brand-new production tab
  • Implemented code changes to optimize the dynamic VRAM requirement down to 2gigs. The optimization will not work for the following cards:
    • NVIDIA 590
    • Radeon HD 4850 X2
    • Radeon HD 4870 X2
    • Radeon HD 5970 2GB Version
  • Added a new option “Use Mouse Confine” to control if the mouse should be confined or not. Added a hotkey 'alt-F1'
  • “+” will now re-display the last 10 chat messages in game
  • The hotkey Alt + S has been assigned to open the Select Map frame from within the Create custom game menu
  • Players in chat channels are now ordered by time joined
  • We have updated the art style of the Protoss console
  • The Gavel is back (Chat room operator commands)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed crash instances related to chat commands
  • Players will now be re-queued automatically if they fail to matchmake
  • /dnd now properly works when set in game
  • The /help command now works within the game lobby
  • /ignore is now working correctly in chat & game lobbies across different gateways

1.20.6 has arrived. This patch is focused on chat command improvements.

Specific Changes & Improvements

  • The Observer UI will now properly handle highlighting and selecting Same Units, on Multiple Teams via CTRL + Clicking a unit type
  • An option has been added to allow game sounds to continue in the background

Bug Fixes

  • /help now works as expected with all chat frames including Create, Join, game lobbies, Ranked, and the Ladder scoreboard
  • /dnd now blocks whispers from users in chat lobbies and in game while the user is in chat lobbies or in game. Toggling /dnd on or off updates the user's status from Online to Busy
  • /friends list should now list all of the user’s friends
  • Players will no longer see /ignored Players' text during in game, various menus and lobbies including chat and LAN chat. Edit (this is no longer in 1.20.6, but should make its way into a patch soon)
  • Fixed a crash players were experiencing when loading short replays
  • Players on the Europe gateway can now access profiles of other players

1.20.5 has arrived. This patch is focused on improvements to Observer and Multiplayer:

  • Player Portraits display in Chat Channels
  • Text on Ladder and Ranked buttons are no longer out of their element
  • Switching languages should no longer disconnect players from
  • App no longer believes the client is running when closed on Mac, but it still misses you when you’re gone

Turn Rate

1.20.4 has arrived. This patch is focused on reducing crashes and hotkey bugs.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed multiple crashes caused in menus
  • Fixed multiple crashes when exiting
  • Fixed a crash caused by chat messages
  • Terran buildings' lifted hotkeys, Zerg Defilers and Queens' attack command keys added to hotkeys
  • Lifted Terran buildings have correct translucent landing zone images
  • Preorder skins no longer offset or disappear into fog of war visibility

1.20.3 has arrived. We are continuing to address server stability and web interface bugs/improvements e.g. Leaderboards & Profiles in parallel. Multiple deployments around these features are scheduled server side. 

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a high frequency crash related invalid map data
  • Hotkey fixes; including support for Ghost and Infested Terran alternative forms & Siege Tank Seige Mode.
  • Games where 1 human is playing entirely against AI are no longer recorded in player profile history.
  • Fix for players receiving a loss /drop in MMR after disconnecting from a Ranked Play game.
  • Viewing profiles now works for folks on the same LAN

Expect more of these small frequent patches to address crashes. 

We see all of the feedback & issues being reported. We appreciate your patience as we work through it. SC has such an awesome global community surrounding it, and together we will continually improve the experience.

1.20.2 has arrived. We are continuing to address server stability and web interface bugs/improvements e.g. Leaderboards & Profiles in parallel. 

Specific Changes & Improvements

  • Observer UI – F6 will now return you to a default zoom state

Bug Fixes

  • Stability fixes, including top exceptions
  • All HD Zerg portraits have been corrected to not overlay on the UI
  • Saving games with the same name should now work correctly
  • Cancelling a ranked game queue will now properly update your Battle.Net presence
  • Preorder building skins will now properly scale to the selected graphics settings
  • Game music will no longer linger, if it was turned off in the settings
  • The cancel option in the confirmation window when attempting to remove a player from a game lobby now works as it should

1.20.1 has arrived. We are continuing to address server and web interface in parallel. 

Specific Changes & Improvements

  • Revoked Zerg disappearing act; burrow holes now stand out better on dark tilesets

Bug Fixes

  • The HDs are available on start up for players with Remastered (one exception; see Known Issues)
  • Players will no longer hallucinate that the death animation of hallucinated units is offset… mirages are tricky
  • Options have been convinced to stop reverting to their default state
  • Interstitial sound effects have found their voice

Server Updates

  • General optimization and performance improvements based on live data
  • Improved matchmaking processing to reduce game results being dropped

Known Issues

  • Running from a desktop shortcut will start in SD (use F5 or Options to switch to HD), will be fixed in next patch
  • Resolving matchmaking fails - have a solution in test

Chat Panels
